Stark Named Executive Director of War Memorial
William B. Stark, longtime insurance executive and key force behind the county war memorial, was named executive director of the Owen County War Memorial Commission. He will resign from the commission before July 1951, and will not receive a salary for the first half of 1951. The commission plans a $16,000 yearly salary for the position, with Stark remaining focused on his life insurance business. Stark has spearheaded fundraising, public campaigns, and planning since 1944, leading to groundbreaking in 1949 and ongoing construction of the $3.5 million auditorium.
