Austrian Crisis and French Polish Hesitation Revealed
Section two to four reveal talks on Austrian independence facing pressure from Hitler. Leger and Poncet describe no formal contact between Vienna and Paris while France weighs how far to back Schuschnigg and whether Britain and the United States will alter support. A German maneuver to deter French and British mobilization is noted, with uncertainty over whether France will act and how Schuschnigg might respond under threat. Also in Brookfield a girl’s disappearance is reported, Patricia Bat she, last seen boarding a bus to Laceanse for a movie alone, described as a very good girl who stayed home most nights.
