Voluntary price and wage freeze planned in inflation fight

Washington reports that Alan Valentine of the Economic Stabilization Authority is considering a voluntary freeze on prices and wages at current December 1 levels, extending until March to gauge readiness for compulsory controls. Officials say enforcement would rely on compliance, with broader price limits likely to follow under the defense mobilization program led by Charles Wilson, newly named to oversee ODM as Truman tightens anti inflation measures.

ESA to announce controls and price rollbacks on cars

The article reports ESA plans to impose mandatory controls and price rollbacks where justified amid protests from General Motors and Ford. Nash and GM indicate compliance, while Chrysler declined comment. The price ceilings, the first since 1946, apply to new cars only and target factory price levels. Valentine orders a ceiling to March 1, removing about five percent in price averaging. A separate note mentions local events: a covered dish supper by Keder Khan Caldron and a Christmas party hosted by WSCS at 6:30 PM following a business meeting.
