Snow squalls are possible into the weekend as lake effect bands shift, with the heaviest activity remaining north of the region. Travel will be slick as temperatures dip, with some locations seeing lows near 60 degrees Fahrenheit.
Snow showers spread through the Northeast and Ohio Valley while the Pacific Northwest faces rain and snow. Scattered showers blanket the central and southern Plains and the West as cold highs dip into the teens and 30s, with extreme readings from Miami to Gunnison.
A cold front crossed southern Texas on Wednesday, kicking up dust that darkened skies near Austin and San Antonio. West winds gusting over 40 mph and dry conditions reduced visibility to less than a mile in some areas before winds subsided and dust settled. Severe dust storms can resemble blizzards with high drifts.
