Deadline nears for pre 1988 vaccine injury claims

A 31 January deadline looms for families with children injured by vaccines before 1988 under the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Compensation Act of 1986. The program pays medical, rehabilitation, lost earnings, and up to $250,000 for pain or death, with fees capped at $30,000. Since inception, nearly $72 million has been paid, most claims linked to the DPT vaccine, amid reports of severe side effects and family advocacy groups raising awareness.
