Fire extinguisher loan denial sparks car fire tale

Michael Broadmeadow, a 21 year old Cumberland man, watched his uninsured $3,000 car burn after a gas station refused a fire extinguisher loan because he could not pay $25 to refill it. Station operator Morris J. Marsh faced fire officials’ insistence that extinguishers are usually refilled free of charge. Broadmeadow said Marsh refused to call the fire department, and the insuranceless student had to make the call himself.
