Canastota expects Santa Claus to make his official pre Christmas visit tomorrow morning. Chief of Police Fred Verro says the event is under the Joseph Buda Police Benevolent Association. Santa arrives at Canastota Airport and is greeted by Mayor Alex Debrucque and local leaders before addressing children.
Oneida Cedar Grove men will be honored at a birthday party event with a joint Christmas party planned at Parkell Drug Co. Madison Street. William Henry Smith, 38, a Watertown truck driver, was sentenced by County Judge Henry A. Hu to not less than three and a half nor more than ten years in Attica prison for carnal abuse of a girl in the town of Pamelia. The sentences are to run concurrent. Robert Mura, 20, Rochester, admitted guilty to petty larceny for taking a chain saw on Feb. 15, 1951, in Watertown, with a prior six months suspended.
Massena village police report two juveniles John Dunn of Cookville and Gerald Carrier of McClosky arraigned on third degree burglary charges after waiving examination and a grand jury. Both posted cash bail of 30 dollars. The theft involved a cash register valued at 5.20 dollars.

In Canton the charred body recovered from the Cole camp near Degrasse was identified as Carl Cole a 38 year old Black River restaurant owner. Identification was made by his wife and mother at Carthage using a foreign make watch found among the ruins. Police reported no rifle or arms were found and there was no evidence of self destruction concluding with a verdict from Dr. Alexander Dodds of Edwards St. Lawrence County.
A boy suffered seven abrasions and lacerations after a pole toppled during play on E Maple Street. He was pinned beneath a telephone pole. police were alerted by Mrs. Frank Brune at 1 PM. Witnesses described two brothers and two others with the group before leaving the scene.
Oneida’s library fund exceeded its $260,000 goal with $173,987 raised or pledged so far. Robert H. Fearon, library board president, said gifts are still arriving and a spring groundbreaking for the new building is planned. He foresees a completed and in use library within a year. surplus funds may be used as an endowment.
Six of thirteen candidates who took the civil service exam for Rome police patrolmen have been placed on the eligible list. Five appointments are expected before year end. two vacancies exist now. The 1933 budget allows funds for three more officers. All but one passed the written test, but only half passed the physical and agility tests.
Residents of the northeastern section met to plan opposition to a zoning change likely to reach the Common Council next Monday night. The group gathered after learning Br Dan Meilen, owner of the home grounds of the eme Colonels, reportedly sold to a supermarket. A formal statement is expected today. Dr Mellen petitions for commercial use, arguing the zoning change was enacted improperly.
Robert E. Earnest, 24, of 1 Hampden Pl, pleaded to driving while intoxicated and was fined $160 by City Judge Johnny Walsh. Earnest was arrested by Patrolmen Carmen DePerno and Stanley Firlet after his car struck a parked vehicle on Charlotte Street. A chemical breath test registered 22 percent.
