United States Forces Report First Victory in Luzon Battle
The War Department announced American and Filipino forces defeated a Japanese attack on Luzon as six transports were hit and three ships damaged or sunk. Tokyo claimed major U S fleet losses and British Far East ships were sunk, while Japan pressed landings around Aparri and Vigan as Manila battles raged.
