Police make DWI arrests in Onondaga region
Onondaga County sheriffs deputies charged Stephan Mack 22 of Clay James Atkins 28 of Mattydale Donial Deaver 18 of Syracuse with driving while intoxicated and related offenses Saturday at various locations including West Taft Road Brewerton Road and East Adams Street. Several others including Charlotte McVie 27 Kenneth Kennedy 40 A Rusyniak 21 Ann Bitgan 34 Elizabeth Desaclo 26 and Judy Comer faced DWI related charges or violations with arraignments set in town of Clay Salina and Onondaga courts. Firefighters battled a smokey chimney fire at 3720 Tanner Road in Onondaga with no injuries. Burglary reports list items stolen from residents and a school building including a bicycle a purse cash clothing and a television.

Marching band plan in Auburn faces boosters’ opposition

Karate tournament raises funds for holiday baskets
Some 164 competitors gathered over the weekend to kick for charity as PEACE Inc sponsored the eighth annual event. Students from 15 karate schools statewide competed, raising $3,300. Andy Robertson, 10, sparred with Vernon Cooke, 10, who won and placed second in the Peewee Novice Division.

Woman dies from carbon monoxide in parked car
Autopsy finds 20 year old Cheri S Duff died from carbon monoxide poisoning after being found in a car on Main Street with Kenneth Boyd Jr. of Lakes Trailer Park. Boyd survived and Duff was pronounced dead at El Noble Hospital. Medical examiner ruled death accidental.

I-81 drivers urged to switch to I-481 bypass
The state DOT asks northbound I-81 motorists through Syracuse to use I-481 to avoid congestion. The 4 mile longer route can cut travel time at peak hours. Two large signs will advise bypass via 481 with phrases about avoiding congestion and next right.
