Suspect in Rochester Murder Questioned After Hospital Discharge
A 21-year-old man charged with murder in the stabbing and strangling of a Rochester businessman was discharged from St Elizabeth’s Hospital and moved to Oneida for further questioning by state police. Frank Webster, arrested at gunpoint in Utica, collapsed at the station while recounting his story. He admitted the slaying of Charles Lennox near Geneva but gave no motive. Police found Lennox’s car along Route 5 between Amsterdam and Schenectady after Webster fled by car and train with plans for Rochester and Geneva. He cashed Lennox’s $251 check and paid a taxi after leaving the grill near the grain dealer’s farm. Concluded on Page 13.

Nine Arraigned in Contempt of Congress Case

Defective Furnace Blamed for Fatal Coal Gas Deaths
An elderly widow Mrs Mary Day and her 12 year old great niece Beverly Hamlin died from coal gas fumes in her living room last night. A neighbor found the bodies at 9 am with the television on and lights burning. Police blamed the deaths on a defective hot air furnace and the coroner indicated they had been dead about ten hours. Beverly, a Percy Hughes School pupil, had arrived to spend the night. Mrs Day was a widow and former roofing contractor's wife.
