Groves Says Wallace Hopkins Sought No Uranium Deals
Lt General Groves testified before the House committee that neither Henry Wallace nor the late Harry Hopkins sought to obtain atomic material for Russia. He noted wartime export licenses allowed uranium shipments to deter Soviet discovery and said Russia espionage attempts surfaced within a month of his 1942 leadership. He insisted Hopkins had no direct dealings and that the Manhattan Project aimed to keep Russia ignorant of the A-bomb program. The testimony cited open Soviet attempts in March 1943 to obtain uranium products.
