Texan's Execution Postponed By Supreme Court
The Supreme Court postponed indefinitely the execution of Robert Excell White a 30 year old Texas drifter from Waco who said he deserved to die and did not want any federal appeal The ruling followed an identical delay for Utah killer Gary Gilmore The decision came 8 to 1 with Justice Rehnquist dissenting as White sought no appeal and urged the court to respect his wishes while Huntsville Texas awaited the sentence.

Syracusan Survives 200-Foot Gorge Fall
Richard R. Weber, 30, of Syracuse, fell 200 feet during a climbing trip near Prospect in Oneida County. Rescue teams from Prospect and two friends aided by nearly 30 volunteers hoisted him from the gorge after a rope attachment loosened. He sustained a broken leg and scrapes and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Utica in satisfactory condition.
