War Clouds over S U finances threaten tuition rises
Syracuse University officials warn of a grim financial outlook amid the wartime draft and global tensions. they anticipate student declines from about 12 000 to 6 000 or 4 000 men, possibly trimming athletics and raising tuition while seeking deferments. colleges statewide expect 20–40 percent drops, forcing budget cuts and staff reductions. the state system foresees similar pressures, with private schools facing sharper revenue losses unless deferments ease.
