ICC Is Asked To End Rail Rate Boosts
James F. Byrnes and the Price Administrator joined the Interstate Commerce Commission in asking to cancel year earner increases in rail freight and passenger fares. The petition says changes, including a 40 percent passenger fare rise, would hurt anti inflation aims and shift more costs to users and war materials. It notes railroads saved over 600 million from price controls in 1942 and argues higher rates are not to raise profits but cover wage and material costs.

Railroads claim higher wage costs offset by OPA controls
Henderson notes railroads can meet higher wage and materials costs without higher freight or passenger rates granted by the ICC. He cites the nine month 1942 net railway operating income at 1.524 billion dollars, up 69.2 percent from 1941, and asserts annual savings of about 10.6 billion dollars on petroleum, coal, steel rails and tin plates due to OPA price controls.

Ten Army Men Die in Bomber Crash in Idaho Canyon
Ten Army members died when four motor bomber crashed in a southeastern Idaho mountain canyon near Sherman Peak. The wreckage was found after two days by Forest Ranger J B Bruce and William F Gagan. The missing aircraft, from Pocatello airbase, carried twelve crewmen. ten names listed and two unknown. Officials said no bombs were on board and whether the plane exploded before or after impact remains undetermined.

21 to Be Executed In Indian Disorders
Special courts in Bangalore and Wardha sentenced 94 people to death for August and September riots. In Bangalore 11 were condemned to death with 13 banished for life after murders and riot charges including the killing of a village police inspector. Wardha saw 10 death sentences, 52 life banishments and nine others jailed for arson looting and murder.
