Benton Is Connecticut, New Senator From Southport
Connecticut appoints William Benton independent figure and former assistant secretary of state to fill the Senate seat of Raymond Baldwin. Benton plans to move to Washington after Christmas to establish his office and residence as the term runs through January 1951 with a late 1953 expiration possible dependent on election results.
