Utah lake renamed to Dern Lake to honor former Utah governor
The U.S. Board on Geographic Names announced the decision to give the Wasatch National Forest lake in Duchesne County Utah the full name Dern Lake. The Forest Service had considered several options including Governors Lake and Dern Lake but chose Dern Lake to avoid misreadings about conditions around the lake. The lake was named for the late George H. Dern, Utah governor and former Secretary of War under FDR.
