A cold flow off Lake Ontario brings snow showers tonight and tomorrow. Snow will be confined mainly 10 points west of the city. Sunday and Monday forecast brighter skies and rising temperatures, with clouds and flurries likely Tuesday.
Light snowfall was forecast today around the Great Lakes and Midwest, with Missouri and the Ohio Valley in line for scattered flakes. Up to three inches could accumulate in parts of Iowa as stormy weather pressed in on the Pacific Northwest, creating a mixed outlook across the nation.
An extended forecast shows a cold front entering the southern Plains and north Texas with possible rain and scattered coastal showers from Washington to northern California. Much of the West and South remains fair with varying temperatures from the teens in the northern Plains to 60s and 70s in the South and Desert Southwest. North to south, highs range from single digits in Grand Forks to 81 in Miami, while winter begins per astronomical markers but official climate records set winter from today to February 28, 2001 in many northern states.
