Bush authorized North aides to aid Nicaraguan Contras network

The Miami Herald reports that in 1984 Vice President Bush approved two aides to assist Lt. Col. Oliver North in creating a private supply network for the Contras based in El Salvador. The network, funded by profits from an arms sale to Iran, supported rebel operations after 1983 congressional cuts. Bush officials say he was generally aware but not of specific fund diversions.
