State Mental Hospitals to Be Speeded Up
Governor Dewey announced a five point plan for a multi million dollar program to expand state mental hospitals. The goal is to add beds and build new facilities across 15 institutions, with rapid action to cut bureaucratic delays and begin projects at Brentwood and Poughkeepsie sites. The plan aims to reduce patient backlog as 108000 patients are currently under state hospital care and 2000 more are admitted annually.
