Nyquist approves desegregation plan for Syracuse schools
Education Commissioner Ewald Nyquist orders the Syracuse Board of Education to implement a pilot mandatory desegregation plan for three South Side elementary schools and a voluntary transfer plan for the rest. If voluntary reassignment fails, mandatory busing will be used in 1977 78. Lincoln LeMoyne and Webster schools are excluded due to future reorganization or lack of nearby imbalanced schools.

Parade to preview fair opens Syracuse State Fair week

Mulroy taps Kanaley for legislature

Blast at Hanford Nuclear Plant Causes Injury and Contamination
A chemical explosion at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Richland Washington injured one person and contaminated ten others with radioactivity, an Atlantic Richfield Hanford Co spokesman said. ARCO spokesman Hal Lindberg said the blast happened in a recovery vessel and no reactor was involved. Authorities noted uncertainty about atmospheric spread.

Conferees vote tax cut extension
Congress extends through 1877 the 1976 individual tax cuts.
