Rear Adm. John M. Poindexter, former national security adviser, has asked to retire from the Navy this fall at a higher rank. He acknowledged personally authorizing diversion of Iran arms profits to Nicaraguan rebels and faces an indictment later this year. His lawyer says he has been told he is a primary target of the special prosecutor.
