The Associated Press reports Bush and Gore push different tax cuts for Americans. Bush seeks a $1.3 trillion across the board reduction with simplified rates and expanded child credits, while Gore advocates targeted credits and higher standard deductions tied to education and health care. Customs busts major drug operation linked to ships
U.S. officials said Saturday they broke up a major drug trafficking ring using commercial ships to move Colombian cocaine globally. About 43 people were arrested and nearly 25 tons of cocaine seized in a two year probe dubbed Operation Jowmey. The network allegedly transported at least 68 tons to 12 nations over three years. Venezuelan authorities reported raids seizing 10 tons and 6 arrests. The probe began with separate inquiries by the DEA in Athens and the Houston customs office, later unified by the Justice Department.
