Indicted landlord family hit with $500 million lawsuit

A New York landlord Salvatore Latora his wife Jane Doe Latora and his three sons face a $500 million civil suit alleging harassment violence to oust rent controlled tenants in Brooklyn. They are charged with 61 counts including attempted murder coercion and assault amid alleged beatings lockups stolen mail and fake evictions. The suit cites the death of a 14 year old girl’s cat and a man scalded then died two days later with DA investigations into three more tenant deaths since January.

New York Sees Oil Dependence Drop by 1996 Says Larocca

New York's reliance on oil could fall from 57 percent to 44 percent by 1996 if current petroleum use trends continue. Energy Commissioner James Larocca urges adherence to the 1979 energy master plan, updates released, calling for three new coal plants and no new nuclear plants beyond those under construction. The plan proposes a 10 million dollar school energy grant program and a 20 million dollar low interest loan fund for hospitals and public care programs to fund energy conservation.

Dioxin Found in Hudson River Fish Raises Health Questions

Federal scientists detected trace levels of dioxin in Hudson River fish from Catskill Poughkeepsie and the Tappan Zee area, with up to 16 parts per trillion of TCDD and Dibenzoforan. Identity of Empire State jumper still unknown

New York police could not identify the young man who climbed the observation deck barrier, undressed, and leaped 102 stories to his death. The corpse, damaged on impact, lacked notes or wallet IDs, and the morgue could not confirm his identity. This marked the building's second self-inflicted death this year, following the January 13 jump by Stuart Doppelman from the 86th floor.
