Oswego County horses' deaths linked to EEE in swamp

Oswego County Health Commissioner Rupert Collins said two horses in Oswego County may have died from eastern equine encephalitis contracted from mosquitoes in Toad Harbor Swamp near West Monroe. Test results due today would confirm EEE. It would be the first horse death from EEE in Onondaga or Oswego counties since 1983. Aerial spraying of the 7,000 acre swamp at dusk on Aug. 9 may not have reduced the mosquitoes carrying EEE.
