In Hamburg a concessionaire at the Erie County Fair offered pie dolls to anyone who could guess a woman's age within two years. He notes men rarely win, but women often do by guessing ages. they even admit to lying about their ages.
A 72-year-old couple, Jank White and his wife, remarried in Nashville after a long separation. They first wed in 1804, separated 17 years later, and later divorced. Yesterday both said the renewed vows show they are now together for keeps, with the bride noting the past tensions but smiles at the renewed union.
The Corning Fire Department unveiled a new rescue net but may face a staffing issue. The department has 16 firefighters across two shifts and two stations, while the instruction calls for the net to be held by 10 men.
A warm Sunday with mostly sunny skies and scattered afternoon thunderstorms possible. Temperatures may rise to 85 degrees after a morning fog burned off. earlier, the Municipal Airport ceiling was 300 feet with visibility at one-eighth mile.

Bonner faced a $5000 bond and claimed he flew heroin from New York to Atlanta and that only half the sum remained in his possession at arrest.
Raymond Farrell 41 of Slingerlands director of audits for the state employees retirement system and his five year old son William died trapped as Farrell tried to carry him downstairs. Farrell's wife Virginia 38 was burned seriously while neighbors helped three others escape from a porch roof and a second floor window.
Albany, NY Gov. Dewey denied Louis Hoffner an appeal for a full pardon after reviewing the State Board of Parole advice. Hoffner remains serving a life term for murder.
Greek Communist led guerrillas were in pell mell retreat in the Irammos mountains after the collapse of their defense line. A Greek army spokesman said national troops are closing in from east and west toward a junction trapping 3,000 to 4,000 rebels, with Iiafa captured signaling final victory in the Irammos campaign.
The federal government secured a temporary injunction stopping a planned strike by 45,000 Fast Coast dock workers set for midnight. Judge Harold R. Medina issued the order against the AFL International Longshoremen's Association, effective until August 31.
Seventeen men died when a B 29 crashed after takeoff from Smoky Hill Air Force Base near Salina Kansas.
