Roy Simmons Sr. a longtime Syracuse University figure and father of Roy Simmons Jr. has died at age 94. The longtime football and lacrosse supporter passed away leaving behind a legacy at SU and a family active in college sports.
Roy Simmons Sr., revered as the patriarch of Syracuse University athletics, died Friday at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital at 94 after a stroke long illness. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Chicago, he became a SU legend quarterbacking 1922–1924, earning letters in football lacrosse and boxing and shaping multiple sports programs.
