TAC Team nets 96% conviction rate for drunken driving cases
The Onondaga County TAC Team reports a 96 percent conviction rate in drunk driving charges over two years and a 99 percent rate for speeding violations, with 20 000 tickets disposed of and overall traffic enforcement expanding despite reduced officer strength. The program, funded by Highway Safety grants and led by Capt. James A. Muraco, aimed to cut fatal and injury crashes and increase arrests, and officials say it exceeded expectations.

New Universal Life Insurance Bill Signed by Governor
Gov. Hugh L. Carey signed three insurance bills authored by Auer and three more part of Sen. Martin L. Auer’s 1982 program. One bill allows life insurers to issue a universal life policy tying premiums to needs and ability to pay with interest credited to premiums. Another extends the auto insurance excess profits law to curb windfall gains, while the third deals with regulatory provisions for insurers.
