Ancient Rome re-enactors train as modern gladiators in Rome
In Rome a Scuola Gladiator offers twice weekly lessons where businessmen, students, and musicians train as gladiators and legionnaires. Students pay 100 dollars for a two month course, using blunt swords and shields, wearing armor, and adopting Roman names. The school, part of Gruppo Storico Romano, has drawn locals and foreigners alike and even staged events at Hadrian's villa.
