Pill benefits outweigh risks for many women says CDC expert
Dr. Howard W. Ory of the Centers for Disease Control says birth control pills prevent 50,000 hospitalizations yearly and may reduce risks of rheumatoid arthritis and several cancers. He cautions risks are higher for women over 35 who smoke, but for the 90 percent not in that group, benefits often surpass dangers. The findings come from a review in Family Planning Perspectives.
