Ogdensburg youth shot fleeing custody hospital bound

A 21 year old Ogdensburg resident La Verne Collins was shot in the back by Police Lt Wallace Hunter as he fled custody near city hall. He remains in Hepburn Hospital fighting for life. Collins faced charges of reckless driving speeding driving without a license and resisting arrest.

Pair Jailed For Beating Children

Carl Hobart and Frances Hobart were sentenced to six months hard labor at Onondaga Penitentiary after Madison County Children's Court found them guilty of physical neglect and abusing two of their four children. Police found the couple beaten and restrained in a spare room. the remaining children were placed under welfare supervision. A fifth child died earlier this year in Oneida.

Anthony Battle says burglars broke in through a rear door at Bat tle's Garage on New Court Road Lynecourt and stole a money image containing 43.24. The intruders rifled an open safe but found no money. Battle found the break at 6 30 am when opening the business.

Smoke mystery at pastor's home finds no fire

Firefighters found smoke in the first floor of Rev. Edward E. Andrews's home at 715 S. McBride St but could not locate a blaze. District Chief Donald Reid said the smoke smelled like burnt meat and firefighters left after ensuring no fire remained.

Limit Urged on S Curve in Oran Delphia

Sheriff Albert E. Stone asked the Pompey town board to seek State Traffic Commission action for 20 to 25 mph limits on the S curve of the Oran Delphia road after Deputy Lynn Scammell reported 50 mph was too fast for the curves. He cited previous accidents including a multiple fatal crash about three years ago.
