Boston Guards Earliest Paper Found in Cambridge Bank Vault
An original issue of the Boston News-Letter, dating from about 1704, was discovered locked in a Cambridge bank safe. The treasure, kept by Peermaster John Campbell, includes the paper’s main story on English affairs, the War of the Spanish Succession era, and notes on Jesuit priests and Ireland. The find highlights the paper’s age and historical value as a rare survival from early American journalism.
