Internal clock ticks differently by age 30

A study by Julie Carrier at Universit y of Pittsburgh shows middle aged adults drift to earlier sleep and wake times, spend less deep and REM sleep, and wake more often than people in their 20s. By age 40 deep sleep drops to levels seen in those over 70, suggesting the internal clock shifts with age. The research analyzed 100 adults ages 20 to 59 with diaries and lab sleep tests.
