Ex-IRA member guilty of illegal entry in U S will face deportation hearing
Gerard Doherty 28 of Belfast pleaded guilty in federal court to a misdemeanor conspiracy charge for entering the United States illegally in the trunk of his girlfriend s car. He will be turned over to immigration officials in Buffalo for a deportation hearing. Supporters plan a Free Gerard Doherty Rally outside the Public Safety Building. Doherty, formerly with the Provisional IRA, previously served eight years in Ireland for bombing attacks. His fiancee Mary Dolan Wildbergh of Freeport faces sentencing for her guilty plea.

Fabulous Franklins at 32nd annual Cazenovia show
About 75 Franklins roam Cazenovia streets and fill the college quad as the H. H. Franklin Automobile Club marks its 32nd annual gathering and 17th at the college. Organizer Al Finseth says this year’s show is the biggest yet and reflects a healthy club with 850 members across the country.

Lenox security guard charged with assault on two teens
A Lenox security guard from Chittenango, Harry Witchley, 22, allegedly posed as a police officer to lure two 18 year old girls into his car and sexually assault them at knifepoint. He was charged with first degree sodomy and faces additional counts including attempted rape, unlawful imprisonment and robbery. The incident occurred along North Main Street in Sylvan Beach Thursday evening. Police found a yellow 1978 Ford Fiesta and a repaired muffler tying Witchley to the scene. The victims were treated and released.

Trio indicted in $3M drug conspiracy case
A Syracuse federal grand jury indicted Brian M. Clanton Juan Orlando Bohorquez and Albert Flores Gomez on charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy. All pleaded innocent at Friday’s arraignment before Magistrate Edward M Conan. Some defendants held without bail. Gomez and Bohorquez face immigration detainer. Names include Clanton 28 Bohorquez 37 Gomez 31. Arrests occurred July 30 in Syracuse by state and city police.
