Labor support for Cuomo in New York election

Lt. Gov Mario Cuomo has rallied major unions behind his bid for governor amid uncertain benefits. Civil Service Employees Association, state AFL-CIO, New York Educators Association and International Ladies Garment Workers Union are among the groups backing his Democratic campaign.

Unions Back Cuomo in New York Primary

More than four dozen unions with over a million members back Cuomo as the Sept 23 Democratic primary approach sharpens. While leaders tout influence, rank and file loyalty and past endorsements may not translate into votes, as unions increasingly argue that members vote independently. Koch trails with about two dozen unions, mainly NYC and Erie County, while public employee unions stay largely absent in the race.
