Pump Boys on TV struggles with ongoing plot and pacing
NBC plans for a Pump Boys and Dinettes TV series face sustainability issues as the stage musical lacks a strong through story beyond a calendar girl plot. The pilot blends music and light comedy with Broadway cast members and guest stars, set at the Double Cupp Diner and gas station near Frog Level, N.C. The piece questions whether the light TV treatment can sustain weekly episodes.
