Rolland B. Marvin 82 former five term Syracuse mayor died yesterday at Crousé-Irving Memorial Hospital after 2 Live-week hospitalization. A Republican who led Syracuse 1930 to 1941 he was praised by Mayor Lee Alexander as a giant in city history. Services set for tomorrow morning at his 257 Robineau Road home.

Man dies after Route 175 crash in Marcellus
A 26 year old Marcellus man Ralph Hutchins died after a single vehicle crash on Route 175 in Marcellus early today. He lost control on Seneca Turnpike and veered into the eastbound lane colliding with Cynthia Ramsden and passenger Thomas Whitbread. Ramsden and Whitbread were treated and released. Hutchins died during surgery at Community General Hospital.

Planes collide over Ukraine killing Soviet soccer team
Two passenger planes collided in the air over the Ukraine killing about 150 people. Soviet sources said the Aeroflot jet carried the Pakhtakor soccer team from Tashkent to Minsk to play Minsk Dynamo. The crash happened near Dneprodzerzhinsk about 500 miles south of Moscow.

Chase raises prime rate to 12 percent in line with 1974 peak
Chase Manhattan Bank announced a hike of its prime corporate lending rate to 12 percent, matching the all time high set in 1974.
