Park representation veto enrages Adirondackers
TUPPER LAKE The veto by Governor Hugh Carey against a bill to give Adirondack Local Government Review Board a majority on the Adirondack Park Agency provoked outcry. Board Chairman Robert Purdy called the veto a betrayal and said the APA ignored the board’s advice. Franklin County legislators voiced similar dismay, arguing the action ignores Upstate interests and Adirondack county wishes. Environmental groups warned local control could tilt decisions toward narrow viewpoints.
