DEC removes sixteen potential hazardous waste sites statewide

The state DEC says sixteen locations previously listed as potential hazardous waste sites are not carrying hazardous wastes. One site is Skaneateles at Coon Hill Road, tied to Brillo's Sewerage Disposal, but operator Joseph Brillo does not store or dispose of wastes there. The remaining locations span twelve counties, with no Central New York sites. DEC aims to refine the list through a systematic review, while noting many sites still likely contain wastes and would join a registry.
