Patti Holtz of Syracuse won the womens 10,000 meters with a 36 12.0 clock, cutting 20 seconds from her best. John Cico of Syracuse placed second in the open 5,000 meters, while Barry Brown and Cico finished 14 25.23 and 14 35.4 respectively. Women lift history making weight at Empire State Games
Eva Turner 26 from West Nyack and two other women became the first female weightlifters at the Empire State Games marking a breakthrough for the sport. Turner won gold in her division at Nottingham High School and aims to expand women's divisions toward the Olympics. Beth Kaminstein competed in a heavier class but her lift was disallowed.
