Valium Withdrawal Symptoms Readily Managed Study Finds
A major study in The Journal of the American Medical Association reports Valium and similar benzodiazepines cause moderately to severely uncomfortable withdrawal after prolonged low dose use. Withdrawals were not life threatening and could be managed by tapering. The study by Karl Rickels and colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania involved about 180 anxious patients on 15 to 40 mg daily for 6 to 22 weeks, with a high dropout due to fear of addiction.
