Oil and gas site cleanup fund created in New York
Gov. Carey signed legislation establishing the Oil and Gas Fund to finance reclamation and emergency cleanup at past and present drilling sites. Estimated annual funding from higher well fees and a raised annual drilling permit fee could total about $100 plus up to $500,000 from reclamation fees. The law also alters districts, provides busing rules for private schools near public districts, and expands vanity plate availability among other measures.
