Wet roads blamed for I-690 fatal crash near fairgrounds

Police say slick pavement and heavy rain caused a crash on Interstate 690 just east of the New York State Fairgrounds. Raymond Szewczyk, 40, of Syracuse was pronounced dead after his car slid off the road into Nine Mile Creek. Rescue teams recovered the body and searched for others as investigators review autopsy results.

Iranian convoy halts to avoid possible ambush in Persian Gulf

Three Kuwaiti tankers and U S warship escorts sailed up the Persian Gulf after an overnight secret stop to avoid Iranian ambush risk. A private craft struck a floating mine near Bahrain with no casualties. Mines have appeared off Bahrain before. earlier in the year two children died examining a washed up mine.
