Postcard dispute over sacred nation speech sparks protest
A California man sent a postcard to the Education Department in Denver protesting a speech denying godlessness in American society. An official in Washington, DC, replied with a warning about Jesus Christ. Treasury employee Sundseth, a self described Christian conservative, refused to name his informant. Rep Schroeder sought explanation from Education on how news spread. The Denver official Thomas Tancredo had distributed Rev. Robert Billings speech denouncing secularism. The department later apologized in a letter to the American Jewish Congress.
