Workers scramble at Carousel mall to meet deadlines as heavy equipment, cranes, and concrete pours reshape the site. Dirt mounds with Solvar Process waste and PCBs loom, while sections near Bonwit Teller and Mall 3 rise with steel, precast panels, and duct work amid dust and noise.
The shopping center plans an October opening with outside parking and concrete sidewalks around the building while PCB levels were found high in one dirt patch. Pyramid’s tests reduced PCB levels and most store openings will follow, with Lord & Taylor delayed to 1991-92 and Bonwit Teller under construction.
