Beautiful cool front to end heat wave tomorrow

Bandit Suspected on Knickerbocker Express Train

Syracuse police and New York authorities searched for James Sheridan aboard the Knickerbocker Express as it neared Grand Central Station. Franklin Owens provided a tip estimating Sheridan’s presence after a Buffalo Brink’s robbery. Police expanded checks through Rome Allen Schenectady and Albany as two other bandits were arrested with loot recovered.

Red Visitors Spread Out

A Russian farm delegation splits tours today with a group heading to Gillette Wyoming to inspect a uranium mine on the Keeline Ranch and another toward Worthington Minnesota. V V Matskevich leaves Washington for a Texas farm view before addressing the National Press Club luncheon. The two week Canada tour and a Mexico visit are planned after the U S trip ends about August 23. An ice show in Huron, South Dakota, capped the evening.

Pilot Narrowly Missed Landing Before Fatal Airliner Crash

AAdv Ameri can Airlines Convair carrying 27 passengers and 3 crew crashed near Fort Leonard Wood Missouri after pilots attempts to reach Forney Airport. Pilot Captain Hugh Barron of Tulsa Oklahoma previously guided a crippled plane to safety last November. Eyewitnesses report the craft came in low over a housing area and shed a wing before crashing into the post area.

Manis Accused As Tipsy Driver In North Syracuse Crash

Raymond L. Landers of 222 S. Crouse Ave. charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene after a two car collision on Route 11 in North Syracuse. Angeline DeStaffan of 227 Carolyn Ave Solvay sustained the impact near the Caughdeney Road intersection. Landers to be arraigned later today before Peace Justice Blaine Bonstead in the Town of Cicero.

Slaying Probe Tied to Missing Mrs Allen in Kansas City

A blood stained 1955 convertible belonging to Wilma Allen was found abandoned near 22nd and Broadway with her clothing in the trunk. Police theorize she was kidnapped and slain after she left a beauty parlor yesterday noon, her body not yet recovered. Maj. Eugene Pond led the detectives in the case.

A nine-year-old told a patrolman that Uncle John allowed him to drive a car with an eight-year-old companion. The boys backed the vehicle onto E Water St and were cited with blue tickets for Youth Bureau investigation. car owned by William Davis of 114 Genesee St.

Alcohol fumes injure 65 workers at plant transfer

In Burbank California an industrial alcohol release at an electrical plant sent at least 65 workers to area hospitals. Twenty six remained in hospital after treatment with none in serious condition as fumes escaped during transfer from a large container to smaller ones.

In Moscow the Supreme Soviet debated tourism and broader exchanges with foreign nations as Premier Bulganin reported. Nikolai V. Tsitsin urged learning from foreigners and foreigners learning from Russians, calling for wider scientific information and personnel exchange between East and West to enhance biology study and global knowledge.
