District aid shifts forecast tax rate challenges this year
State budget delays complicate setting tax rates as districts rely on uncertain state aid totals constituting 38 percent of budgets. North Syracuse, Liverpool and Lyncourt will receive more aid than anticipated, with small grants for technology, playgrounds, and pre kindergarten programs, while some programs shift costs to counties.

Wood carving turns a Syracuse U worker into an artist
David Gursky, a Syracuse University information booth staffer and UPS employee, teaches himself intricate wood carving during slow times. He crafts faces and figures from wood, sketches them from memory, and plans a potential side business with his sister and a UPS coworker, though he treats carving as a relaxing hobby rather than a full‑time job.
