Electronics replacing church bells in modern ministry
By Gary Gerew, a shift from traditional bells to electronic carillons and recordings grows in churches. Industry voices note cost differences and occasional preservation of real bells, while architects and donors influence the move. Local churches with bells may toll at Hiroshima remembrance.

Rabbis ease up on conversion of Ethiopians
Israel's chief rabbis said newly arrived Ethiopian Jews will not be required to undergo a ritual conversion immersion to be recognized as Jews. They allow consideration of each case's family history for marriage eligibility and will include Ethiopian leaders as advisers in the rabbinical court. Rahamim Elazar awaits whether this signals policy change or only a delay before marriage.
