Sculptures Return To Soldiers and Sailors Monument
The two 20 foot figures weigh 13 tons and are moved to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in Clinton Square. City officials plan a ceremonial unveiling on September 2 to honor Civil War veterans while Clinton Square’s $8.5 million reconstruction proceeds. Restoration costs rose by about $150,000 from the original $500,000, with beams and pedestals rebuilt after field repairs. The figures were refurbished by Conservation Solutions in Maryland after removing years of pigeon debris and repairing a sword and flag.
