An unofficial tabulation in Washington lists American casualties in Korea at 1402. The tally adds 97 killed 11 died of wounds 451 wounded 97 injured and 146 missing since fighting began.
Police report six Communists were injured in a night clash in Hamburg between Communist Blue Shirt youths and anti Reds. The altercation occurred on the street with no immediate details on casualties or arrests.

A Senate committee approved penalties of up to a $10,000 fine and one year in prison for hoarders and black marketeers as Congress rushes toward economic stabilization measures. He did not rule out an excess profits levy later, and Senate finance committee opened debate while House Ways and Means rejected an excess profits proposal.
New York price index for wholesale food rose to 6.53 the highest since September 28, 1948. Butter cheese jellies tea cottonseed cocoa eggs potatoes rice and prunes led gains while flour corn oats and other items lagged.
The Defense Department will unveil an interim deferment policy for reservists and National Guardsmen called to federal duty. The policy will not apply to Selective Service draftees. Pvt Marry Bagan, 28, of Syra accuses duty with the First Marine Division now in Korea. His mother Mrs Anna Bagan of LiL Beacon St. says he is a veteran of three years service in World War. Bagan, attached to the First Marine Air Wing, has overseas duty. Two brothers also serve in the Marines: Corp Daniel Bagan, 30, in Indiana, and Pfc Peter Bagan, 24, home on leave.
Marines from San Diego docked as seven attack transports tied up in intervals. Men in full battle kit cheered, while cranes lowered jeeps and gear. Flags waved as the Stars and Stripes and UN banner flew, signaling the start of deployment for Korea.
In Los Angeles a holdup ends badly for the gunman who demanding cash at a service station. Manager Phillip Nightengale wrestles the gun away and fires twice, forcing the robber to flee on foot, leaving his hat and car behind.
London reports that Turkey informed the British government of its desire to join the Atlantic Defense Pact. No formal request has yet been received by Britain, according to the Foreign Office.
An American intelligence officer reported no Red Korean officers above second lieutenant were captured. He said they often choose hari kiri rather than face capture, noting only 17 prisoners were taken yesterday. He added a few second lieutenants and noncommissioned officers have been caught and expected a shift when UN forces go offensive.
John M. Redding, D N C publicity director since April 19 1947, was nominated by President Truman as assistant postmaster general. He will also serve as public relations adviser to Postmaster Donaldson. He succeeds Paul Aiken who resigned to seek the Democratic Senate nomination in Kansas. secretary ross said no date yet for a successor.
A Pentagon briefing said the overall American situation in Korea is improving though still serious. The spokesman cautioned against optimism, noting continued need for more troops and equipment and sustained air warfare to push back North Korean advances.
