In DeWitt a public works project for a new town hall runs under budget and ahead of schedule. Town Supervisor Burton Lowitz says construction is about three weeks ahead and could finish by mid October with an opening date around October 15. The 28000 square foot, two story building sits on Butternut Drive near Kinne Road housing town clerk offices a courtroom board room and police facilities on the first floor with other offices on the second. An extra 4000 square feet remains unused.
Police Chief James DeLapp announced a new town hall on the second floor with space for expansion and a 140-car parking lot. A 6-acre adjacent park with an amphitheater is planned, funded partly by state support after an archaeological study. The town will auction or bid current facilities and relocate offices to the new site.
